Michael Leigh, OD

Dr. J. Michael Leigh is an optometric physician and seasoned university educator. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Utah University with a degree in Biology/Zoology. In 2010, Dr. Leigh completed his optometric education and received his doctorate from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee.

Following graduation, he established a practice in the suburbs of Memphis to provide his diverse community with the best possible care. In 2014 he relocated to Utah, where he continued working as an optometrist in several offices throughout Washington and Iron counties. Two of Dr. Leigh’s most significant interests are education and vision. In 2016 he joined the biological sciences faculty of Utah Tech University, and in 2020 was a finalist for the distinguished instructor of the year award.

Dr. Leigh is an active member of the Alpha Chi National Honor Society, American Optometric Association, Utah Optometric Association, American Society for Microbiology, and the American Association of Immunologists. He also enjoys traveling with his wife and playing make-believe with his young son in his spare time.

Dr. Leigh’s teaching responsibilities include Lead Instructor for Medical Microbiology/Immunology and Medical Physiology. He is also involved in laboratory and clinical instruction as well as serving as faculty advisors for student research projects
