Dr. Spencer Johnson is a board-certified optometrist and Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO) with a strong background in both clinical care and academic instruction. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University and his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

Dr. Johnson is the lead instructor for primary care and family practice courses at Rocky Mountain University College of Optometric Medicine. His clinical interests include ocular disease management, laser procedures, contact lenses, and advanced optometric technologies. He is deeply committed to training the next generation of optometrists through hands-on clinical education and evidence-based care.

Professional History: Spencer Johnson, OD, FAAO

Dr. Spencer Johnson has built a distinguished career that bridges clinical practice, optometric education, and research. With a background in neuroscience and advanced optometric training, he brings a unique and comprehensive approach to eye care. After completing his undergraduate degree in Neuroscience at Brigham Young University, he earned his Doctor of Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

Dr. Johnson’s early professional experience includes work in the refractive surgery industry and the successful ownership of a private optometric practice, where he gained extensive experience in patient care and surgical co-management. His interest in clinical innovation and student mentorship led him to academia, where he served as a faculty member at the Oklahoma College of Optometry, teaching courses in neuro-ophthalmic disorders, healthcare systems, and epidemiology, and overseeing student training in advanced optometric and laser procedures.

Currently, Dr. Johnson is a lead instructor for primary care and family practice courses at Rocky Mountain University College of Optometric Medicine, where he plays a vital role in shaping clinical education and curriculum development. He is also a principal investigator for the NIH-funded RAPID study, focused on evaluating povidone-iodine as a treatment for viral conjunctivitis.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), Dr. Johnson is an active contributor to continuing education and has delivered lectures at national, regional, and state-level optometric conferences across the U.S. and Canada. His professional history reflects a deep commitment to clinical excellence, research, and preparing the next generation of optometrists for modern, patient-centered care.
